Graffiti Contest
The highlight of the week was set on the 26th of July. Everyone was busy with preparation for this date during the days before, because the graffiti contest was held in this time.
It took place at plan d’eau in skate park of Metz in the afternoon, June 26th. We were very lucky in terms of weather, because the sun was shining all the time so our articst werent bothered by rain or cold weather. As a whole, there were seven competing individuals or national teams. There were also two participating groups from our exchange, Estonian and Czech.
First, everyone selected the right cans of different colors he needed for his painting. After a half an hour we saw first sketches and the wall prepared in optimal condition to fully serve as a painting canvas.
After another three hours we could already see the finished graffiti pieces. First, the jury was introduced. It consisted of representatives of municipality of Metz, people from a youth non-profit organization from Borni, famous graffer and a leader of Together organization. Then we heard a short descryption of each painting from its author. The artists mainly expressed their actual feelings in a graffiti letters. Czech group presented an alternative graffiti use different from what the mainstream can offer. Estonians worked with color meaings in a wider range – we could find national colors as well as the ones symbolizing happines or national revolution.
Finally, after an energic discussion, the jury made the unasy decission about winners of the competition. The first price went participants from Czech Republic, the second place was for a graffer from Metz and the last one was for Estonia.
